As we all know, 304 and 316 materials belong to austenitic stainless steel, and austenitic stainless steel is non-magnetic, so 304 and 316 materials should be non-magnetic.

304 and 316 materials are indeed non-magnetic.
However, the production of stainless steel wire ropes needs to go through a series of cold working.
During the cold working, the internal microstructure of the steel wires will change from austenite to martensite, which will result in the finished stainless steel wire ropes having slight magnetic.
We usually call this magnetism working magnetism.
Therefore, 304 and 316 stainless steel wire ropes might be slight magnetic, we could not simply use magnets to determine whether the material of the stainless steel wire rope is 304 or 316.
