Stainless Steel Wire Rope Buying Tips

2025 08/08

Stainless steel wire rope, due to its corrosion resistance and high strength, is widely used in aerospace, marine engineering, construction hoisting, and other fields. When purchasing, consider a variety of factors, including material, specifications, and application scenarios. Below are detailed buying tips:
1. Material and Specification Selection
Material Type:
304 Stainless Steel: Basic type with excellent corrosion resistance, suitable for general environments (such as construction and household items). Tensile strength ≥520 MPa, applicable temperature -40°C to 80°C.
316 Stainless Steel: Molybdenum-added, resistant to weak acid, alkali, and salt corrosion, particularly suitable for marine environments and chemical equipment.
Plastic-Coated Stainless Steel Rope: Surface-coated with PVC or PE for enhanced weather resistance and abrasion resistance, suitable for long-term outdoor exposure.
Structural Parameters:
Diameter Range: Standard specifications range from 0.15mm to 50mm; selection should be based on load-bearing requirements.
Twist Type: Point Contact (flexible but prone to wear), Line Contact (balanced wear resistance and flexibility), Surface Contact ( Highly wear-resistant yet rigid)
Common structures: 6×19, 7×7, 1×19, etc. The number represents the number of strands and wires per strand. The more complex the structure, the higher the strength.
II. Key Quality Indicators
Mechanical Properties:
Tensile Strength: Standard requirement is 1570-1860 N/mm², with high-end products reaching 1960 N/mm².
Breaking Tensile Strength: Ranges from 0.018 kN (thin rope) to 52.2 kN (thick rope), with a 20% safety margin.
Elongation: ≥40% (304 material)
Certification Standards:
Domestic certification requires compliance with GB/T9944-2015.
International certifications: ASTM (US), JIS (Japan), ISO, etc.
Supporting Steel Wire Standard: YB/T4470-2015 specifies chemical composition and surface quality.
